Novembers goals

I sighted in both 30 and 35 yards. This process was easier than I expected thanks to the G5 and also the practice I've had. With the G5 the sight has five pins that can easily be changed with an Allen key. Not only can you change the pins in the sight but also the whole sight itself.

Things that led to success

Practice was one thing, but the most important thing that led me to pass my first goal of 20 and 25 yards was technique. The number one rule is to not choke the chicken. The hand holding the bow should just have pressure against your palm and thumb letting the rest of your fingers not making contact with the bow. The second is having a consistent anchor point when you draw back the bow. I bring the string back to just below my ear having my middle and fourth knuckle touching my earlobe and my hand behind my jaw bone. The string ends up touching the tip of my nose with all of that. The last thing is making a "T-Form". This means if you look at someone shooting from their backside their torso should be vertically making your spine a straight line. To make the horizontal line of the 'T' is to have your drawing elbow in line across to your bow side elbow. This makes the back muscles engage to create a more accurate shot.

As you can see, draw back elbow is a little high, not perfect but getting close.

Stable anchor point behind jaw, thumb wrapped around handle to make bow not collapse.

October's Testings

To find out the exact yardage of the target, I used my Bushnell Tour V2 golf range finder. Bushnell makes hunting range finders but both work fine. The difference with the hunting range finder is that it is more durable and has specific modes for riffle and bullet drops from different locations just as the golf one would have slope to see if your shooting up hill or down.

October's Test

The second location from 25 yards was also a pass giving myself the green flag for the next challenge up to come.

Octobers Test

For the month of October, my two goals were to shoot from two locations being 20 and 25 yards into a circle which has a circumference of three inches. Instead of a complete circle, I used the "O" in "BLOCK" as the target. The results were successful I would say from the 20 yard location.

On September 24, 2013, my brother Lars and I went to Cabelas to look at bows. We met Greg who works in the archery department who is awesome. He told us a lot about different bows and let us try out some in their range in the back. We both loved the Quest Rogue.
